Pune stands firm behind Anna Hazare


Peaceful rallies continued in Pune on Friday in support of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare. People formed human chains and carried out candlelight rallies in various parts of the city.

On the second consecutive day, more than 10,000 IT professionals wearing Gandhi caps formed a massive human chain at Hinjewadi.

Waving tricolours and placards, the techies from Wipro, Infosys, IBM, Geomatrix stood on the streets of the IT park shouting strong Lokpal bill slogans.

Techie Amit Rora, who left work early to participate in the rally, said: “The fight for a strong Lokpal Bill is very close to my heart and that is why I am here.”

The IT professional circulated emails and spread the message on social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, to garner support for the rallies.

Around 1,500 citizens participated in the candlelight march from Savarkar Memorial on Karve Road up to the foothills of Parvati hills organised by members of the Art of Living. They carried a palkhi with photographs of Hazare and their guru Sri Sri Ravishankar.

In the neighbouring industrial township of Pimpri-Chinchwad, more than 2,000 college students, software techies, women from various self-help group and members of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Bar Associations participated in a peaceful protest march.
