Khadi makes way to the ramp at WLIFW

Khadi is the next chic trend for Spring/Summer this season. Designer James Ferreira transformed the traditional Indian fabric with pita work, appliqué techniques and presented it in new shades of orange, green and fuchsia.

The blend of khadi with georgettes, satins and organzas to producesaris, dhoti shorts, jumpsuits, shirts and skirts was very impressive. The khadi saris were clearly the show stealer.

“Khadi is the most beautiful fabric that we have. I have combined khadi with chiffons and georgettes. It gives you warmth in winters and cool in summers. My collection is inspired by the Gandhi family and Lady Edwina Mountbatten,” told the designer.

The collection starts from Rs 3,500 onwards.

Patriotic songs in background set the right mood for the night. Tracks like Mere Desh Ki Dharti, Rang De Basanti Chola, Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon and Saare Jahan Se Acha were played. “The new nationalistic fervour by Anna Hazare has certainly motivated me. I love India,” said Ferreira.

Nehru caps or Anna caps were donned by the models.

The designer received a standing ovation from the entire audience in the end. Day Four of the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week S/S’12 concluded on a perfect note!
