The entire Sangh Parivar appears to be coming out in open support of the anti-corruption movement flagged off by Anna Hazare.
On Sunday, the RSS declared that the BJP's student wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), will take the campaign forward. The plan was disclosed by RSS central executive member Ram Madhav at a meeting of ABVP and Youth Against Corruption (YAC) workers at the gates of Lucknow University.
The authorities had earlier cancelled his pre-scheduled programme at Malviya Auditorium on the campus on the pretext of "adverse intelligence inputs". While drawing a parallel between the movement of India Against Corruption (IAC) and YAC, Madhav said: "The politics of suppression of the UPA led to the success of Anna's movement. Now, the UP government is suppressing the movement of the YAC. This will also grow." Many Sangh leaders have already admitted that the ABVP played a key role in the IAC's campaign.
"The YAC members had taken permission for this meeting two days ago. I was supposed to speak on graft. But the university authorities cancelled the programme on the state's directions. We condemn such a move to suppress an organisation's democratic rights and campaign against graft," he said. The Sangh leader revealed that they would spread Anna's movement all over the state.
"This was the first programme of the YAC. We have planned more such events," he said.
University proctor U. D. Mishra said: "We had got intelligence inputs that this programme could result in a law and order problem. So we cancelled it."ABVP state president Jai Pratap Singh, who is a lecturer at Lucknow's KKV College, said the YAC was formed last year when members of his organisation developed differences with the IAC. "The IAC was initially planned by ABVP leaders. But since Arvind Kejriwal was not ready to accept ideological dominance, we decided to float our own organisation," he said.
