To welcome Ganpati this year, Meghna Mehta, a Drive-In road resident, has come up with an innovative technique. If you thought that the theme is based on Anna Hazare's campaign or any social message, think again. Using modern mechanical techniques, her family has prepared an amazing set and placed the Lord in a beautiful location with an automatic system.
Meghna says, "The system involves putting a coin inside and see the whole drama. Once the coin is inserted, automatic abhishek is done on the Lord. Also, we have placed Ganpati on a white elephant (which is extinct now). In the background, music plays and the white elephant dances with joy as it carries Lord Ganesh on its back."
She says that music has been selected purposely indicating the trumpets of the elephant, giving a realistic feeling that elephant is singing the song. After all the cute singing and dancing part by the fatty elephant, the end part is yet to come. Once the elephant finishes its dance, the shower of flowers (Pushp Varsha) is done on the Lord.
The splendid decorations and the technicalities, however, required a lot of efforts, recall the Mehtas. "It took us around 15 days to prepare it. Though it is prepared at home, we had appointed a technician for it," said Harshil Mehta, Meghna's husband.
The Mehta family has spent around Rs35,000 on the arrangement, which is attracting many devotees. "This is the first time that we have brought Lord Ganesh idol at our home and thankfully the response is so good. Everybody is appreciating the technical work," added Meghna.
But from where did they get the idea? Said Meghna: "When we were staying in Mumbai, I had seen it there; but it was on a large scale in an open ground. It was then that I decided to use the technique at my home for Ganesh but on a miniature version."
