Anna & Team all set to Save Lok Ayukta

As the campaign against corruption continues and Anna Hazare and his team are set to resume fasting, they are simultaneously starting another campaign, called 'Save Lok Ayukta'.

Hazare himself will kick off the campaign at Freedom Park in Bangalore on Sunday. Thousands of Bangaloreans are expected to be present to support him and his team.

Anna and his team, along with Indian Against Corruption (IAC), will seek to mobilise public support to retain the institution in the state, which, under the leadership of former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, earned people's trust. Anna will be accompanied by Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi from his team. Justice Hegde, freedom fighter HS Doreswamy and other prominent figures in Bangalore will also take part in the campaign.

Prithvi Reddy, IAC coordinator, told DNA that there are politically powerful anti-social elements who are threatening to pull down the institution. "Lok Ayukta is a threat to the corrupt and they are trying to weaken the institution. We have been informed that senior officials in the Lok Ayukta are being threatened by politicians," he added.

The campaign will include a rally at Freedom Park on December 17. Rallies will also take place in various districts across the state including Mysore, Gulbarga, Dharwad, Tumkur and Chikkaballupur. The IAC is currently conducting awareness programmes in educational institutions, companies, parks and public places in run up to the rally on December 17.

After Bangalore, Hazare is expected to attend a campaign in Chennai.
