Concerned over 2 months blockade, Anna sets eyes on State 3 member team to land here soon

Imphal, October 09 2011: Taking serious note of the over two-month long economic blockade on the National Highways and the utter failure of the Government to resolve the crisis, anti-graft campaigner Anna Hazare is set to depute his men to the State to study the situation for redressal.

Demanding creation of Sadar Hills district, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has been imposing economic blockade on Imphal-Silchar and Imphal-Dimapur routes since August 1 .

On the other hand, the United Naga Council (UNC) has also called a similar stir on the same routes to denounce the State Government's alleged bid to create new districts after bifurcating Naga inhabited areas.

Anna will urge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to resolve the impasse before Diwali.

"Former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Rahman and social workers Manish Sisodia and Akhil Gogoi will visit the State to study the situation very soon," disclosed Jeevan A Ningthou, State coordinator of the forthcoming Team Anna visit.

"When Sanjay Nahar, founder president of Sarhad, a Pune-based NGO working for the betterment of the people of border States raised the humanitarian crisis besetting Manipur owing to the over two-month old economic blockade to Anna Hazare, the anti-corruption crusader straightaway took up the issue," Jeevan, also a social worker said.

The three Team Anna members will take stock of the situation and submit their report to Anna, who in turn will urge the Prime Minister to resolve the crisis before Diwali, Jeevan said adding that some Manipuri students might also accompany the team.

"Anna will urge the Prime Minister to resolve the crisis as a Diwali gift to the people of Manipur who have been facing severe crunch due to the inflation since the last two months," he added.

Jeevan made it clear that the proposed visit has nothing to do with any political interest or leanings.

"This is purely a non-political campaign with the intent of resolving the impasse which has for long been crippling Manipur," he said adding that the trio would meet Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and representatives of agitating groups and other civil bodies of the State.
