Akhilesh reiterates support to Anna

Samajwadi Party’s state president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday reiterated his support to the anti-corruption agitation of Gandhian activist Anna Hazare. While embarking on the fourth leg of his Kranti Rath Yatra from the State capital on Saturday, Akhilesh agreed that corruption was a major issue and Anna Hazare’s anti-graft agitation had clearly demonstrated the people were against it.

“We should neither read too much between the lines nor bother about the backing of various groups to Anna’s agitation,” Akhilesh said while responding to a question on Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s support to the movement. He said the issue taken up by the agitation was important and who was behind it was not relevant at the moment.

Earlier, senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav had invited Anna Hazare to Lucknow for wage a battle against corruption in the state. “We invite Anna Hazare to come in UP and wage a battle against corruption in Chief Minister Mayawati’s Government. We will be supporting him,” he had said.

However, firebrand SP leader and the party’s Muslim face, Azam Khan, differed on the issue saying Anna’s agitation was backed by the RSS and he doubted its credibility.

Akhilesh started the fourth leg of his Kranti Rath Yatra from Sports College on Saturday. Passing through Kursi in Barabanki he reached Mahmoodabad in Sitapur. He will cover parts of Hargaon, Sidhauli, Maholi, Sidhauli in Sitapur and address a meeting in Itaunja at Bakshi-ka-Talab on Sunday.
