Respect Anna, but parliament supreme: Pilot

SRINAGAR: Anna Hazare is a respected Gandhian, but the right of parliament to make laws has to be respected by all, union Minister of State for Information Technology and Communications Sachin Pilot said Saturday.

Speaking to reporters here, Pilot said the government was concerned about corruption, but the law-making authority of parliament needed to be respected.

"Annaji is a respected Gandhian. I support the nobility of his cause but we have to respect the sanctity of the legislative process," Pilot said.

He also said suggestions to improve the Lokpal bill were welcome so that the bill could be made more effective.

The minister denied allegations that the corrupt had been protected by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

"Whenever tangible evidence was brought forward against corrupt persons, the government acted promptly against them," he said.

The minister inaugurated a computer forensic lab at the DOEACC centre here. He also inaugurated a customer care centre of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
