City continues to support Anna


VARANASI: The city continued to witness a series of programmes like rallies, demonstrations and dharnas at different places in support of Anna Hazare on Saturday.

While the activists of different NGOs continued their dharna under the banner of India Against Corruption at the district headquarters, students and people associated with many other organisations also held pro-Anna programmes. Addressing the gathering, the speakers exhorted people to strengthen the movement of Anna to end corruption from the country.

A group of women associated with Nari Jagaran and students of Panini Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Tulsipur organised a prayer meeting at the college for the success of the anti-corruption agitation of Anna. Amidst chanting of mantra, the vedic girl student of Panini Kanya Mahavidyalaya prayed for the well being of Anna. Meanwhile, students of fine arts of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth organised a programme of poster making to express their support to Anna at Bharat Mata Mandir.

In a unique style, the local stage artistes under the banner of Dashrupak Kala Sanskriti Sewa Samiti carried out a rally from Machhodari Park to Pishachmochan. Carrying out a symbolic funeral procession of corruption through various localities, they performed 'pind-daan' of the social evil at Pishachmochan kund.

The trader community also came forward to extend their support to Anna. Under the banner of Varanasi Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal, traders associated with different vyapar mandas assembled before the statue of Swami Vivekanand in Nadesar area from where they carried out a march to the district headquarters. Traders from different parts of the city joined this march and they burnt the effigy of corruption at the district headquarters to express their support to Anna Hazare.

On the other hand a group of vedic students also carried out march in Lahurabir area in support of Anna. Besides, the pundits of Vidwat Parishad performed 'MahaMrityunjay Jaa'p at Maha Mrityunjay Mandir, Daranagar for the well being of Anna and carried out a march to show their support to the movement. The activists of Vande Mataram Sangharsh Samiti also carried out a procession in different localities with a pledge to fight against corruption.
