Senior Congress leader suspended for making comments against Digvijaya


Lucknow: The state unit of the Congress on Tuesday suspended Senior Congress leader from Varanasi Rajesh Khatri for making comments against party general secretary Digvijaya Singh. Khatri has also been issued a showcause notice. “Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi has suspended Khatri from the party. He has also been removed from the post of party spokesman in Varanasi,” said party sources. Khatri had allegedly called Singh “mentally sick” last week for the latter’s comments on social activist Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption, Baba Ramdev and the burial of Osama bin Laden. Khatri had also threatened to stage a dharna during the party’s state-level convention.

SP expels 2 leaders for anti-party activities

The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday expelled two party leaders for indulging into anti-party activities and indiscipline, said a party spokesman. Former district president of Ballia Vishram Singh Yadav and Ramji Gupta have been expelled from the SP on the directive of state president Akhilesh Yadav, party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said. Meanwhile, Congress leader and former MLA from Robertsganj Parmeshwar Dayal on Tuesday joined the SP expressing faith in the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
