Activist Anna Hazare did an Om Puri in front of a 3,000-strong crowd here on Friday, saying half the cabinet ministers were “frauds” and “liars”. “What will happen to this country?” Actor Puri has been slapped a privilege notice by the Lok Sabha for calling politicians rustic and semi-literate, while addressing a crowd at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi during Hazare's fast.
The anti-graft campaigner, however, defended teammate Arvind Kejriwal, who had been served a notice by the Income Tax department on August 5 and criticised the Centre for “troubling” the members of the anti-corruption crusade.
The Gandhian also opened fire on home minister P Chidambaram by calling him mischievous and a liar.
“This P Chidambaram is a mischievous man,” he said, hinting that his arrest was actually planned at the home ministry level. “Chidambaram has lied many a time.”
He said he had been told by the deputy inspector general (Tihar jail) that the decision to arrest him was actually taken by the government.
After 12 days of fast at Delhi's Ramlila ground to press for the adoption of the Jan Lokpal bill, Hazare arrived at his village on Thursday.
On Friday, he accepted villagers’ request and attended a gramsabha.
His parting shot, referring to the Kejriwal episode: “If such things continue, we in the civil society will have no other option but to choose another way.”
