Fight against graft to continue: Prashant Bhushan

Fatehabad, Sep 9  Prashant Bhushan, senior member of civil society and close associate of Anna Hazare, today visited the place where farmers are staging dharna for the last four days near the body of their colleague Ishwar Singh Siwach. 60-year-old Siwach was taken ill when he was sitting on the dharna outside the mini-secretariat here on Saturday and his condition deteriorated on Sunday and he died the next day. He was protesting acquisition of land for the proposed nuclear power plant in the district. Supporting the farmers, Bhushan said, "Any act passed against public opinion or without consensus of people will be unjustified and irrelevant." The land acquired without the consent of Gram Sabha is invalid, he said. He also said that the proposed nuclear plant near here was not in favour of the people and was rather fraught with radiation hazards. Bhushan appealed the farmers to cremate the body, but continue their struggle. Meanwhile, the body of Ishwar Singh Siwach has been taken to his village Gorakhpur for last rites. Bhushan told reporters that the fight against corruption would continue and if the Jan Lokpal Bill was not passed the civil society would resume the agitation for total transparency in the system and administration at all levels. In reply to a question about possibility of Arvind Kejriwal to contest Hisar Loksabha bye-election, he said there is no move of Civil Society to contest elections and the movement will remain non-political.
