Arrest of Anna Hazare : SAD to hold protest on August 19


CHANDIGARH : Shiromani Akali Dal has strongly condemned the arrest of Social activist Anna Hazare and his team and said that this incident has reminded the people of the days of emergency and it is nothing less than murder of democracy.

In a resolution passed at an emergency meeting of the Core Committee of the party called by the party President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, which was also attended by Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal, party called upon the people to initiate public movement to save the people of the country as well as democracy in the country.

Briefing about the deliberations at the meeting, party Secretary and Spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that  Core Committee has decided to hold District level protests in front of offices of the Deputy Commissioners on August 19 from 12.00 to 2.00 pm to stop this murder of democracy and democratic values, curb the corruption and ensure bringing back of black money stashed in foreign banks. He said that on the occasion a Memorandum in the name of the President of India would also be handed over to Deputy Commissioners.

The resolution said that SAD has always opposed emergencies imposed on the people directly and indirectly by the Congress party and has fought battles against it for its attempts to subvert the democratic set up in the country. It said that country has got freedom with the numerous sacrifices made by the Punjabis and the party would not allow Congress to undermine this freedom of the people of the country.

Prominent those who attended the meeting included Jathedar Avtar Singh, Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Gurdev Singh Badal, Jathedar Tota Singh, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and Sikander Singh Maluka.
