Parliament passes unanimous resolution on Anna's demands

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said Lok Sabha has adopts 'sense of House' on three key issues raised by Anna Hazare. The house was adjourned without voice vote. Rajya Sabha too was adjourned after it adopted 'sense of House' on three key issues raised by Anna Hazare.

lower House was adjourned till Monday by the speaker after a 'sense of the house' was taken and there was unanimity in passing the resolution.

Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee requested the speaker Meira Kumar to adopt the sense of the House as a resolution and forward it to the standing committee.

He also, made it clear that the outcome of the proceedings will be submitted to the parliamentary standing committee examining the Lokpal Bill. The standing committee will bring a revised legislation to the house, he said.

Mukherjee on Saturday took a subtle dig at Team Anna, saying there is a distinction between democracy and mobocracy.

"To say that the government bill should be withdrawn and to burn it in public. This is not democratic behaviour,” Mukherjee said.

"There is a distinction between democracy and mobocracy,” he said while alluding to the deadlines set by Anna and his associates for passing their version of the Jan Lokpal bill in the current session of parliament.

Parliament "does not necessarily follow the conventional way of lawmaking,” he said. "India is the largest democracy. It is a functional democracy," he added.

"I accept the lapse of our governments," said Mukherjee. "One piece of legislation, however strong and empowered it may be, cannot completely eradicate corruption," he said, reiterating his party line.

According to Yashwant Sinha, both, the BJP and the government were in agreement that no voting was needed and the Sense of the House should be conveyed to the Speaker.

Team Anna member Medha Patkar called it a part betrayal. "This is not what we agreed on with Khurshid; it's part betrayal" she said.

Anna Hazare is expected to end his fast at 10am on Sunday after mediator Vilasrao Deshmukh presents him with a copy of the resolution adopted by Parliament, agreeing to his three demands.
