Kozhikode, Apr 8 : The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Kerala today extended its support to social activist Anna Hazare on his movement against growing corruption in the country.
Speaking at a 'meet-the-press' programme, organised by the Calicut Press Club ahead of the April 13 Kerala Assembly poll, CPI State unit Secretary C K Chandrappan said the party extended whole hearted support to Hazare, who had launched a fast unto death at Parliament street demanding a fresh Lokpal Bill aimed at ending the menace.
Demanding an early decision on the issue, he said the Bill should have radical steps, including provision to bring top government functionaries, including Prime Minister, to its purview.
Besides, he said judiciary should also be accountable to the people, he said.
His party colleague and Kerala Forest Minister Benoy Viswom had also extended support to the Gandhian on his tirade against corrupt elements in the country.
In a letter sent to Hazare yesterday, he said ''the civil movement you have launched against corruption in public life warrants support from people from all walks of life.''
