Even as uncertainty loomed over when Anna Hazare would step out of Tihar Jail on Wednesday, campaigners under the banner of India Against Corruption (IAC) claimed the movement would continue in full steam. If the 73-year-old face of the jan lokpal bill agitation agrees to come out of jail after an agreement between the IAC camp and Delhi Police over the venue, the agitation will most probably resume at the Ramlila Maidan.
"In that case, Annaji would travel straight from Tihar to Ramlila Maidan and we will continue the agitation there," IAC media coordinators said.
However, if the face-off between Team Anna and the police continues, Thursday may see a repeat of support campaigns across the city culminating at Jantar Mantar.
Another major event planned is a political rally to be organised at Delhi University campuses expressing solidarity for the anti-corruption movement.
Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has announced that a rally would start from Kirorimal College around 10am and take a tour of the entire north campus area.
"A similar rally would be held simultaneously at the South Campus too," said Shekhar Chahal, an ABVP member.
Wednesday saw crowds surging outside Tihar Jail in west Delhi and on the road leading to Chhatrasal Stadium in north Delhi.
"On Thursday, the situation is likely to remain the same. People would continue the agitation in their respective areas," IAC organisers said adding, "By evening, we plan to camp at Jantar Mantar and carry on the movement from there."
People are also likely to assembly at Jai Prakash Narayan park, the original protest venue, and also at Ramlila Maidan, the proposed site, as heavy police presence was seen at both sites.
However, much depended on Hazare's move, sources said. At the time of going to press, Hazare and his team had not reached an agreement on the number of days for which the agitation would be held at Ramlila Maidan.
