A local court today examined the seventh witness in a defamatory case filed by Anna Hazare against former Maharashtra minister Suresh Jain.
In 2003, Jain had addressed a press conference in which he alleged that Hazare had misappropriated funds in the Sant Yadavbaba Trust Shikshan Prasark Mandali with which the activist was associated.
Following this, Hazare had filed a defamation case against Jain, who was then with the NCP but has since joined the Shiv Sena.
Today, Jain's counsel SK Jain cross examined Mukund Sangoram, Resident Editor of Marathi daily Loksatta (Pune) in the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S Bose.
Sangoram, who is the seventh witness in the case, said that the report of Jain's press conference was published on the front page of his newspaper and as a Resident Editor he was responsible for it.
He also explained to the court the procedure of publishing a news.
The court then posted the case for further hearing on January 11.
