Will Advani's latest yatra end at Anna's abode?

NAGPUR: A day after BJP's veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani announced his plans to embark on yet another 'rath yatra,' speculation has started on its route and purpose. A keen observer of the RSS and BJP affairs from the city says as per his information the yatra will start from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and conclude at Ralegan Siddhi, the abode of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.

Thus it would be a symbolic march to connect the original Gandhi with the modern-day Gandhi, a tag that Anna has earned with his non-violent agitation and 13-day fast for the Jan Lokpal Bill last month at Delhi's Ramlila grounds.

A city businessman Dilip Deodhar has been studying the RSS affairs closely and time to time comes up with useful insights about of the organization. Claiming that he had been inducted into the think tank of the BJP by none other that party president Nitin Gadkari recently at the launch function of a local Marathi newspaper's online edition, Deodhar said the sixth rath yatra of the BJP veteran was clearly aimed at cashing in on the nationwide response to Anna Hazare's recently concluded agitation that saw the UPA government bowing before peoples' power by agreeing to most of his demands.

According to Deodhar, both the starting point and concluding one for the yatra have been chosen with definite purpose. Sabarmati in Gujarat, to voice the BJP's anger against the way the governor of that state appointed a Lokayukta without consulting the Narendra Modi government. And Ralegan Siddhi, as it is the new nerve-centre in the fight against corruption. The small place in the state has achieved so much symbolic value that Anna's core group is meeting there on September 10 and 11 to discuss further strategy of the movement.

Moreover, there would be special attempts to rope in BJP's youth wing - the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha - in the yatra as it was seen that the young generation had responded fabulously in Anna's agitation. Though the RSS was in no way directly connected to Anna's movement, it has unstinted support to all agitations aimed at attacking corruption in high places. Thus it would once again tacitly stand by the Advani yatra, Deodhar claimed.

He went on to add that Advani's latest yatra plan was decided on the spur of the moment when he stood in Lok Sabha on the concluding day of the monsoon session on Thursday to defend two of his party MPs who were arrested in the cash-for-vote scam along with Amar Singh. The two MPs were complainants in the case and their arrest ordered by the Delhi court caught the BJP by surprise. The Advani yatra is likely to take shape in next two months.
