Govt betraying Hazare: Ramdev

NEW DELHI: Baba Ramdev on Saturday accused government of cheating Anna Hazare, warning anti-corruption crusader of conspiracies being hatched by the ruling dispensation.

"All the three issues of inclusion of prime minister, higher judiciary and conduct of MPs in parliament under Lokpal ambit raised by Anna Hazare disappeared," the yoga guru said. Casting aspirations over government assurance to social activist, he asked: "Tell me one thing, which demand of Anna Hazare has been accepted by the government? Earlier he was betrayed and now too he has been betrayed."

In the backdrop of Ramdev's assertions, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed slammed BJP for its duplicity. He said the saffron party vociferously backed Parliament resolution which rejected Team Anna's core demands that fuelled the Ramlila agitation.

"BJP is going around shouting support for Anna Hazare, but it shows saffron party's duplicity because it did not accept core demands which were quite evident in Parliament resolution," Shakeel Ahmed told TOI.

Ramdev, who along with supporters was forcefully evicted from Ramlila Maidan in June, was back in the national Capital a week after Anna broke his indefinite fast following Parliament resolution agreeing to three demands — provision of appointment of Lokayuktas in states, citizens' charter and inclusion of government employees under the Lokpal bill's ambit.

While yoga guru said he is in 100% support of Jan Lokpal bill, he warned the Gandhian that government conspiracies are very dangerous, saying on both the occasions Anna was betrayed by the authorities.

Though Ramdev hope something good will comes out of Anna's fast, he said: "I can not disrespect Anna's decision, but whatever happened is now in front of the nation. The proposal is now with the standing committee."

The yoga guru's comment came in backdrop of popular perception that Team Anna hijacked anti-corruption movement once launched by him with Bharat Swabhiman Yatra across the country.

Ramdev thanked the government for not labelling grave charges against him as it did against Team Anna. Arguing that government was afraid of people movements, he said first it accused Anna of neck deep in corruption, and then alleged his associates of involvement in serious cases of corruption, murder, extortion and kidnapping.

He added that he has not received any notice from the Enforcement Directorate for taking foreign money in violation of Foreign Currency Regulation Act (FCRA), accusing that this is an attempt by the government to force him to stop his campaign against corruption and black money.

He claimed that his two the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust and Divya Yoga Mandir Trust — followed all the rules and regulations while receiving foreign money.

Accusing government of honouring criminals and discrediting nationalists, he clarified that neither his trusts nor he himself have any links with any company and has served crores of people.

" The government is trying to defame me through these charges. This is conspiracy to force me to stop my campaign against corruption and black money," Ramdev said, announcing starting the second leg of his Swabhiman Yatra from Jhansi on September 20.

The yatra is significant as it starts from Bundelkhand in poll-bound UP which is epicentre of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's strategy to regain power in politically crucial state.

Ramdev also gave clean chit to his close aide Balkrishna in a case against him for allegedly using forged educational certificate to acquire passport. "He is an Indian citizen of Nepali origin," Yoga guru said, adding that Balkrishna has submitted all required documents for his Indian passport.
