Anna Hazare's Dubai supporters released on bail

Two supporters of Indian anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who were arrested in Dubai on charges of violating the UAE national security laws, were released on bail on Monday, a day after three other accused in the case were released, reported 'Khaleej Times'.

The duo were held back on technical grounds as their names did not appear correctly in the computer system of the prosecution. This was rectified on Monday after the case files of these two accused were transferred from the office of the Prosecutor in the Murraqabat police station where all the accused were detained.

Their lawyer said the accused have surrendered their passports and deposited Dh5,000 to comply with the bail conditions. They cannot leave the country before the investigation is over and they are cleared off the charges. They have already requested the Prosecution to drop the case considering their ignorance and innocence.

Earlier story

Five Dubai-based supporters of Indian anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, who were arrested on August 21 on charges of violating the UAE national security laws, were granted bail on Sunday.

The men were detained after one of them organised a 3km-walk in Al Mamzar Beach Park in Dubai to express solidarity with Hazare, who was on an hunger strike demanding a strong anti-corruption law in India.

Three of them were released from the detention centre in Murraqabat Police Station, while the release of two others is delayed on technical grounds, reported 'Khaleej Times'.

The names of the two people  did not appear correctly in the computer system of the Prosecution, said their lawyer Hashik TK, adding they will be released shortly.

Their bail was granted after the prosecution was informed that the intention of the accused was neither to violate the local laws nor to disturb peace here. “They are not against the state and they do not have any criminal background either. They were just expressing their moral support for a good cause. We have requested the prosecution to consider all these points and drop the case once the investigation is over,” the lawyer said.

Their first bail request was rejected on August 2.
