Hazare arrest draws criticism


Opposition parties including the CPI, CPM, Telugu Desam, BJP and people’s organisations on Wednesday condemned the arrest of veteran social activist and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in New Delhi.

A cross section of the society extended its solidarity to Anna Hazare and demanded that the centre government must concede to the demand of enacting Jan Lokpal Bill and bring the prime minister, CBI and vigilance commissioner under its purview.

The Poura Samaja Vedika continued its relay fast for the second day on Wednesday near Bandar Locks in support of Hazare.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) took out a padayatra from Raghavaiah Park to Lenin Centre where it conducted a public meeting. Its former floor leader Ch. Babu Rao, former corporator Donepudi Kasinath, Jogi Rama Rao and others addressing the gathering came down heavily against the Congress and UPA government for arresting Anna Hazare. They criticised that the Centre has no courage to enact a law to punish the guilty and corrupt leaders.

The CPI formed a human chain at the Lenin Centre.

Former MLA K. Subbaraju, Nasar Vali, former floor leader Donepudi Sankar lashed out at the Centre for imprisoning Anna Hazare and his supporters in Tihar jail.

The Telugu Desam staged a dharna in Gollapudi protesting against the arrest of Hazare. District president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao led the stir and demanded the centre enact Jan Lokpal Bill for the trial of corrupt leaders.
