New Delhi: After bending over backwards to accommodate Anna Hazare's demand for an unconditional protest fast against corruption, the Central Government is looking for a new strategy to counter him. Government sources have told CNN-IBN that the health of Hazare, who is 74-year-old, will be monitored closely once he begins his fast and he will be moved to a hospital if his health deteriorates.
The Government strategy is that Hazare will not be able to fast for more than three or four days although he has been given the permission for 15 days. Sources add that crowds in favour of Hazare is already dwindling with each passing day.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been designated as the hospital where Hazare would be moved if his health deteriorates. A team of doctors from the GB Pant Hospital with an ambulance on standby will monitor Hazare's health from Government's during his fats at Ramlila Ground. The Government will go by the report of GB Pant Hospital doctors in deciding when the fast should be stopped.
The UPA Government is also open to any Opposition MP bringing in the Team Anna-supported Jan Lokpal Bill through a private member's bill route in Parliament.
A team of doctors from Medanta Medicity, GP Pant Hospital and the Tihar Jail hospital examined Hazare on Thursday morning and declared that his condition was stable.
Meanwhile, Justice Santosh Hegde hinted at a compromise between the Government and Team Anna on some of the provisions of the proposed Lokpal.
"We have taken a collective decision in Delhi. Nothing is moving forward, so we want to move. I am not saying compromise in that sense that you give something and we will take. We want a strong Lokpal Bill. They (Government) are saying we are adamant on (including the) prime minister and judges. I am saying I will persuade my colleagues not to be adamant on these two issues but we have differences on eight issues. Let them agree on those issues," said Hegde.
