Anna Hazare inspires us to sacrifice for India: Kiran Bedi

April 08, 2011 12:01:13 AM

Civil rights activist Kiran Bedi today said the entire nation got the inspiration of sacrifice from noted Gandhian leader Anna Hazare, whose fast-unto-death entered its fourth day over the enactment of an anti-corruption bill.

"People who get blessings from Anna Hazare do not need anything else to devote to the country. So, I offer my prayers to Anna Hazare. We are getting the inspiration of sacrifice from Anna Hazare. We are also getting the inspiration of sacrifice from the entire country, from the youth, women and kids," said Bedi.

Meanwhile, reacting on central government's rejection on the demand to issue an official notification to constitute the draft committee for Lokpal Bill, Hazare announced countrywide Jail Bharo agitation across the country on April 13.

"The citizens of the country have to participate in 'Jail Bharo' agitation. We have to follow the path of non-violence as taught by Gandhiji. Violence should not take place anywhere. People walking on streets are our brothers and sisters. They should not be hurt. Remembering all these points we have to participate in 'Jail Bharo agitation," aid Hazare.

He said that the people would teach the government a lesson by joining the 'Jail Bharo' agitation.

"When the citizens of the country gave the politicians time to serve them and the nation then they forgot to perform their duties sincerely. The citizens became the owners of India on January 26, 1950. The owners of this country are now ordering the servers to serve the nation and bring the Lokpal Bill. If the politicians do not accept our demands, then the people will to go to jail and teach them a lesson," added Hazare.

The government talked tough on Hazare's demand for an effective Lokpal Bill earlier today, saying it cannot accede to the demands of the chairmanship of the joint drafting committee being given to a civil society member and for issuing an official notification.

A meeting of Union Human Resource and Development Minister Kapil Sibal with anti-corruption activist Swami Agnivesh and Arvind Kejriwal which was scheduled to be held this morning did not take place with both sides saying they were waiting for each other.

According to reports, Sibal later held a held a telephonic conversation with Agnivesh, where the former clearly stated the government's stand on the issue and also called for another round of talks at 6 p.m. today. (ANI)
